Nicktoons Unite

Introduction

Nicktoons Unite is a series of games featuring prolific Nickelodeon characters from the 2000s, with all of the games at least always featuring SpongeBob SquarePants and Danny Phantom as playable characters. In Europe, it was known as the SpongeBob SquarePants and Friends series. The first title in the series was “Nicktoons Unite!”, which was released in 2005–2006, and the last title was “SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom”, released in 2008.

A vast majority of the games can be described as platformers and feature combat. A prominent villain of the series is Professor Calamitous from “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius”, but various other villains also execute evil plans within the series. Nicktoons Unite has original characters and worlds not seen anywhere else.

Cartoons

Multiple Nickelodeon cartoons, to varying extents, have been involved in the Nicktoons Unite series. This is not an exhaustive list of all cartoons involved in the series, but at least covers the major ones.

“SpongeBob SquarePants”

“The series focuses on an optimistic sea sponge named SpongeBob SquarePants, who lives in an underwater pineapple with his pet snail Gary. He lives among his two nearest neighbors, Patrick Star, SpongeBob’s best friend who lives under a rock, and Squidward Tentacles, a grumpy octopus who lives in an Easter Island Head. SpongeBob and Squidward work together at a fast food restaurant called the Krusty Krab. Their boss is a cheapskate crab named Eugene H. Krabs, who lives with his whale daughter, Pearl. SpongeBob is enrolled in a boat-driving school run by Mrs. Puff, a pufferfish, and often spends time with a thrill-seeking squirrel from the surface named Sandy Cheeks. The villains of the show are Plankton and his computer wife, Karen, who own a failing restaurant called the Chum Bucket across the street from the Krusty Krab.”
- Encyclopedia SpongeBobia, “SpongeBob SquarePants (series)

“Danny Phantom”

“[The cartoon] centers on the life and adventures of 14-year-old Danny Fenton, an unpopular 9th-grade boy attending Casper High. He lives with his eccentric ghost-hunting parents, Jack and Maddie, and his overbearing older sister, Jazz. One day, he wanders inside his parents’ ghost portal and accidentally triggers its activation, infusing his DNA with ectoplasm. This transforms him into a half-ghost, half-human hybrid, and gives him an array of ghostly powers such as the ability to walk through walls, turn invisible, and fly. Danny struggles to learn to control his new powers, but when ghosts start coming out of the newly-activated ghost portal, he realizes that he must use his powers to protect his town from the evil ghosts coming out of the portal. Danny’s best friends, technophile Tucker Foley and Goth-minded Sam Manson, support Danny and help him in his adventures.”

“The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius”

“The show follows a scientifically minded boy named Jimmy Neutron from Retroville, Texas who frequently goes on adventures with his two best friends, Carl and Sheen, usually involving his inventions going wrong.”
- Wikipedia, “The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius

“The Fairly OddParents!”

“Timmy Turner is an average ten year old boy whose life is miserable. Bullied by Francis and hated by the insane Mr. Crocker at school, neglected by his parents and left in the care of the torturous Vicky at home, he falls back on his fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda, to grant him his wishes. His wishes often backfire on him, as either the wishes are disastrous, or they make for him a new enemy. It is up to Timmy and his fairies to attempt reversing the effects of said wishes as they come against many hurdles, most prominently either the exact wording of the wish, or Da Rules which covers fairy godparents’ behavior and their godchildren’s wishes.”

“Tak and the Power of Juju”

“Deep down in the heart of the jungle, where there are magic and mayhem, the fate of an entire tribe rests in the hands of a young 14-year-old shaman apprentice. It’s Tak, the only Pupununu who has the Power of Juju. But his main interest is to goof off with his friends, Jeera and Keeko. Tak’s powers allow him to access the magic that is usually solely obtainable to the Jujus, but he has no knowledge of magical training. So rather than giving him respect and success, his powers usually get himself and the Pupununu villagers into some severe trouble. But he tries to do his best, and with a little luck and some quick thinking, he manages to come out on top.”

“Invader ZIM”

“The series is centered around an egotistical, clueless [alien] invader named Zim who constantly and futilely attempts to conquer and destroy Earth, a more satirical version of the real world set in the distant future. Zim’s schemes are usually foiled by Dib Membrane, an aspiring paranormal investigator who takes the Earth’s protection into his own hands. Dib is among the few people who sees through Zim’s disguise.”

Reviews

This section has links to all the reviews/overviews that I have done for the series. This section also has tier lists of the handheld and console games. This project was inspired by YouTuber LS Mark’s videos, “The Nicktoons Crossover Saga” and “The Nicktoons Handheld Crossover Saga”.

Do note that the series wasn’t played fully in order. I had already played “Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island” for the GameCube, some of “Nicktoons: Attack of the Toybots” for Wii and some of “Nicktoons Unite!” for the Game Boy Advance before deciding to do this project. I also focused on the handheld games (specifically the DS games) before the console games. (Basically, I went all over the place.)

Most of the console games (excluding “Battle for Volcano Island” for GameCube) were played using the Dolphin emulator. (I did have a Wii remote and nunchuk for the Wii titles, however.) The DS and GBA games were played on a modded New Nintendo 3DS.

Tier Lists

The console games and the handheld games are done in separate tier lists as I feel that it would be unfair to directly compare them due to the differences in hardware. Also, these tier lists are done solely compared to games within the series; if I were to do the tier lists with the consideration of what all games are out there on the same systems, then a vast majority of the games would be C-tier or lower.
